Dr. Fahmi H. Kakamad, born 1985, currently he is the director of Kscien Organization for Scientific Research— An organization for embedding and improving research cultures in developing countries. His research interest is field of surgery. He has published more than 40 papers in national and international journals.


Dr. Fahmi Hussein Kakamad is the Reviewer of International Journal of Case Reports and Images (IJCRI) since 2015. In this interview, Dr. Fahmi Hussein Kakamad shared his experience, philosophy and advice about being a reviewer of a journal and academic publishing.

Edorium Journals: How did you get involved in peer review process?
Fahmi Hussein Kakamad: I have too much interest in scientific publication, I liked to be involved in peer review process, so I requested to be a reviewer and fortunately they welcomed me.

Edorium Journals: What are some qualities of the best journals for which you have reviewed compared to other journals?
Fahmi Hussein Kakamad: I have reviewed for some journals, they have a special system through which you can chat with the author directly and blindly. This may be a better way of reviewing.

Edorium Journals: What changes would you like to see in the current peer review process?
Fahmi Hussein Kakamad: I would like to forbid reviewer suggestion, and the process to be carried out totally blindly.

Edorium Journals: Do you think journals should have a formal training program for peer reviewers? How will it help the reviewers?
Fahmi Hussein Kakamad I think it is better to have such a program. It will enhance their skills and experiences.

Edorium Journals: How can researchers improve their skills to become good peer reviewers?
Fahmi Hussein Kakamad: As much as researchers submit more papers and get their works reviewed, they will get more experience and their skills improve.

Edorium Journals: What advise will you give to authors for writing good articles?
Fahmi Hussein Kakamad: My advice for researchers is that they should work as reviewers to improve their articles and vice versa.
